Vedic astrology is based on mathematics. According to the principles of astrology, whole Universe is 360º, in which twelve signs and twenty-seven Nakshatras are present. Each sign is placed at 30º and each Nakshatra is placed at 13º-20′.
Degrees have their own place in Vedic astrology. Planets are combust or rise, retrograde or direct and their distance from Sun will be considered through degrees. Age of planets will also be considered through degrees. The distance of degrees between Sun and Moon will form bright half and dark half.
Date, time and place of birth is required to make a Kundli. As time increases, degrees of the birth Ascendant also increase. Astrological Varga chart depends on degrees. Navmansh (नवांश) , dashamnsh and other Varga cannot be determined without degrees. Generally, when any planet is placed at a distance of 15º from Sun, then it is declined in the birth-chart.
When any planet is far from sun its speed will change. Sometimes it rises from decline, sometimes it is fast or slow or it becomes retrograde. Vimshottari Dasha (विंशोत्तरी दशा) is determined on the basis of degrees of Moon.
Therefore we can not ignore degrees in astrology.
